The minivan market is getting more and more exciting. After Honda announced the all-new 2020 Honda Odyssey, the story could go even further. Yes, the 2020 Honda Odyssey Type R is likely to happen. While the base model will bring plenty of upscale features, the Type R model should deliver an astonishing performance. Moreover, the exterior will get an aerodynamic boost.
If it happens, this minivan will deliver class-leading figures in many segments. However, Type R is a well known performance-oriented model so the focus is the engine.
2020 Honda Odyssey Type R exterior changes
The forthcoming model will be not so different than the previous models. However, the 2020 Honda Odyssey Type R will get a new exterior styling. Generally, the shape will remain the same, and most importantly, the shape looks great. Up front, the air flow is much better, the headlights are larger and are coming with the LED units.
The grille gets more chrome details and it looks brilliant. The wheels are 20-inch alloys and new sportier tires are on the offer. Some new lines are running across the front and rear doors and are adding more aggressiveness. The rear looks the same, but everything looks larger, from the taillights to the rear window. Red stripes and black doors are here, just like on any other Type R vehicle. The hood will probably get a scoop and the spoiler at the rear is a must.
2020 Honda Odyssey Type R interior look
The interior of the 2020 Honda Odyssey Type R is combining a family practicality and Type R features. With that in mind, regular seats, infotainment display and instrument cluster will get a Civic Type R work. As this is a minivan, the instrument board will come with different buttons and controls. A 6-speed gear shifter looks sporty and the dash gets black leather and red accents.
An emblem is on the steering wheel and aluminum pedals are available as well. Basically, the materials inside the cabin are premium, even at the back. The doors are opening automatically and red ambient lighting looks superb. All of the displays are larger, features are premium and the safety is great.
2020 Honda Odyssey Type R engine
Perhaps the most important segment about any Type R model is the engine department. The same is with the 2020 Honda Odyssey Type R minivan. The 2.0-liter engine is gone, and Honda will take a full advantage of the 3.5-liter twin turbo V6 unit.
This drivetrain will be slightly re-tuned and it is the same engine that can be found inside the Acura NSX. It will generate up to 450 HP and 375 lb-ft of torque.
Acceleration and transmission system
With those numbers, Odyssey Type R will receive class-leading figures in its respective segment. Sadly, an all-wheel-drive setup is not available, but this minivan can reach from 0 to 60 mph in 6 seconds. A 6-speed automatic transmission is the only gearbox option so far.
2020 Honda Odyssey Type R price and release date
The forthcoming 2020 Honda Odyssey Type R model will cost almost $60,000. For example, the Elite top-trim level cost $46,500. On the other hand, this is the most powerful minivan in the class and the price is reasonable. This model will hit the markets later in 2019.
